Purple Bridge
The infrastructural [w]hole, destroyed, void & forgotten.
Three generations pass between the bridge along the Spree, dividing the East and the West - only visible to ideology.
Smokes gesture is fleeting but strong. Alarm or signal, one pays attention to the source[s]. A gap is bridged by the colour purple, a noble color that enhances the sacred.
WAISENBRÜCKE 1894-2019
On occasion for the Märkisches Museum, Einladung zum Museumsfest, Creative City on August 18th, 2019, the project “Purple Bridge” was realized.
We were invited by the museum to draw attention to the historic building, increasing its visibility to the public.
We chose to “re-build” the Waisenbrücke, a bridge that joined the two banks of the Spree and served as the main axes to Märkischer Platz and the museum's entrance.
The bridge suffered irreparable damage during WWII and was eventually completely dismantled in 1961.
The intervention, therefore, sort to unify the main axes for a fleeting moment of color.
